Like a good little fanboy, I installed the Safari 4 beta on my aging iMac. So far, I am really liking the new version. Nothing earth shattering, but the performance gains are quite nice. Even on this old G5, Safari seems a lot zippier. I have noticed something really odd since installing the beta. Mail.app stops rendering HTML emails correctly. I’ll get the first few lines of an HTML email and then a bunch of whitespace. If I resize the window, the email appears normally. Anyone else seeing this?

I have a great G5 iMac. It has been my main machine for years now. I recently upgraded Flash to version 10 and performance began to suck. The new, supposedly high performance version of Flash made whole sites unusable. Last night I downgraded to Flash 9 and life is good. Here’s what I did:

1. Download the Flash Uninstaller from Adobe - here
2. Fix Disk Permissions via the Disk Utility
3. Download all whole slew of versions of Flash 9 - here. If you are just looking for the seemingly latest (as of November 2008) go here, but be warned I had problems with both the Universal and PowerPC installers.
4. Fix Disk Permissions via the Disk Utility

Things seems to be working a heck of a lot better now. Guess I’ll have to wait for a rev’ed iMac before I a) give this G5 up and b) upgrade to Flash 10.

I have a lot of old work still locked up in FullWrite format. What’s FullWrite you ask? Only the best word processor ever made. Ever. It was intuitive. It was as featured as was necessary. It was fast. It just worked. A classic Mac application if there ever was one. I can still run it today by using the Classic environment in OS X 10.4. The problem is that some day, in the not too distant future, I am going to go to 10.5 and that means no more Classic OS 9 and thus no more FullWrite. I have converted most of my documents but I still have a worry that I’ve miss something. Does anyone know if someone has ported FullWrite to OS X? Can any of the newer processor convert FullWrite docs? The only thing I have found so far is this post which most extols the virtues of FullWrite. Anyone out there have a good solution for document conversion?
